More & more lady bugs

There are over 100 species of ladybugs that call California home. They vary in color & the number of spots even within a species. I've heard it often takes DNA analysis to identify them. These I found along the trail 2 days ago. I read that they come out of hibernation when the temp reaches 55F (13C). Quite a few at this location. Played around with filling the entire frame with these insects but settled on this one.
That is unreal,awesome capture!

Great capture, these aggregations are so impressive. I've seen some good ones in the San Jacinto and San Bernardino mountains.

@azirasson These are on the Romero Canyon Trail, just south of Santa Barbara. I've also seen then on 2 other trails in the area. It's probably a 1/2 hike to get to these. Check back with me if this is really something you want to do & I'll give you more details. http://www.santabarbarahikes.com/hikes/frontcountry/romero.shtml
