The Redhead again.

This male duck, known as a Redhead, will be gone soon enough since it's only here for the winter. I gravitate to it every time I visit the small lake where he's staying. Not my first post of him....probably should do a collage....but he's so beautiful, I can't believe he's real.

I found out that they are considered "parasitic" & the female sometimes lays her eggs in the nests of others. Most of those eggs fail to hatch. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Redhead/lifehistory

Sad that such a beautiful bird is considered parasitic. Although, not all parasites are bad... You're right. This image is so perfect it looks like a Duck's Unlimited painting or a duck stamp....
