Visited Pretoria University's Onderstepoort Campus today. This is the only place in the country that you can study to be a vet. What an amazing facility!
One of their patients was this 2 month old rhino. He was only as high as my knee! He came from Pilanesberg Game Reserve, and had been attacked by a lion which broke his right hind leg. His mother had come to his rescue and had also suffered injury, but after a few stitches was fine and set free. This little guy needed to have his leg pinned on Wednesday at Onderstepoort, but is recovering very well and will be released back onto the Reserve in time.
If you are wondering: (especially with all the media around poaching for Rhino horn) .....his little horn has not grown yet, but he did hurt it during the lion attack. Every time a scab forms, it gets itchy and he rubs it off again.
