As in German language the Paeonias are called Pfingstrosen (literally translated Pentecost Roses) I go with these flowers today.
There is a place near my home, where in 1953 the visionary landscape architect, R. Seleger, discovered that a former bog would be an ideal location for the cultivation and propagation of hardy rhododendrons and azaleas in all colours. What began as a modest garden, has over the last decades become an internationally renowned park with Rhododendrons, a considerable fern collection, and many other unusual species of plants. One attraction is a unique Peony collection of more than 400 plants. Unfortunately, most are by now badly shaken by the rain and almost finished flowering. But the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom, the frogs are singing and the ferns ar euncurling.
Fortunately, I was there already very early, before the crowds of people flooded the park.
Beautiful closeup, and such interesting info about peonies. These gardens sound like a photographer's paradise, and how wise you were to get there early.
