I did not return empty-handed, from my trip to Haslital region yesterday. Of course I brought home from Meiringen the delicious and famous meringues (with a light chocolate flavour), which I will serve together with my self-made chocolate cream, aside the Sunday coffee/tee.
Interesting for me: According to a popular opinion, the Italian confectioner Gasparini created around 1600 a dessert made of sugar and egg whites, which he named after the village Meiringen and this name was later transformed into the French word Meringues. From there this sweet spread the world. In Germany, this sweet dish is known under the name of Baiser (French for "Kiss"), which is to go back to an exclamation of an English queen. “It is like a kiss”
These are of course only popular speculations, … Other interpretation say the word comes from medieval Latin, and means “honey-sweet " derived from the Latin mel-honey. According to another source, it comes from the Latin merenda what means afternoon snack.
But for us, Meringues are named after Meiringen and are the best. ;-)
Very nice composition, really very appetising...I've been there once for skiing I remember ...and I remember the meringues with the "double-cream"....so good !
@cocobella Salut Corinne. Thanks for your comment. This is a great place for skiing and a must, eating the meringues. Glad you know, what I'm speaking about.
@whimsicalgrateful Hi Marta,... thanks for your comment. So sorry they are all gone by now. It is natural light from the big window by the right side, and the artifical shine from the lamp over our eating table. I adjusted the white balance a bit (to get a warmer light) directly on the camera, and overexposed the shot. That's it,... oh now and then we have eaten them,... ;-)
Lovely photo Mona!
The light is devine... what was your set up like?
