2015-11-15 ons #7 macro

For ONS: #7 Macro

Peanut Nikolaos of Myra (Arachis hypogaea nicolausis) / or how you maybe call it: Peanut Elf (Arachis hypogaea nymphea). ;-)

Interesting for me and all jokes aside: this rarely noticed bearded head in the peanut, has of course a biological meaning. It is the embryo of the plant. From the "beard" the first embryonic shoot with first leaves would arise and from the “cap" the embryonic root would be built.

“Would”,… because these nuts (actually a bean, means a vegetable, not a nut) will not germ.

And BTW: I have really enjoyed ons10 - thank you Jerry @orangecrush :)
Very nice

I never knew that, Mona! Still early in the morning and I've just learned my first new things for today! Fabulous macro!

I had never noticed this, but then I haven't had peanuts for years, as I'm allergic to them (but not dangerously). Lovely capture, and thanks so much for sharing this.

Beautiful details. I really like that you chose to have the one unshelled peanut amongst the others.

I've often wondered what the significance of that feature is (nature always does things for a reason, doesn't she? ), interesting to know, thank you.
Great pov and composition.

Hi Mona, would you be kind enough to tell me how many days I let people vote for the street challenge shots once I have selected the top 5, as I have not done this before, many thanks Jo.

@jo13 Hi Jo, I think there is no general rule. For a big challenge like the street-challenge I would allow 5 days and for smaller challenges on weekly basis about 2-3. I too have taken the time windows form my predecessors. Hope this helps. Have a great start in the new week. Mona

Lovely, and interesting image of peanuts! I love them but try not to eat too many as they are somewhat calorific!
