I have this love and hate relationship to gold (or silver) leafing or gilding. I love this old traditional method and like using it, but my technique is far from good and I would need much more practice. Gold leaf has the tendency to load electro-static, and sit anywhere, just not where you want it. This is also the reason why I use for minor tinkering only these pseudo gold flakes or silver. Using the real stuff, hammered 22 karat pure gold, is extremely expensive, especially if it is not quite working as I wish or when Samira thinks “wow pure gold, why not lying in the middle, after all I’m a princess”. BTW, the natural agate I use to polish and smooth scratches of the gilded material.
Look at that bokeh! And look at how amazing the gold leaves are, how festive and beautiful... I can't imagine how difficult it is to deal with though! I wonder what you're making?
Beautiful shot, and such nice light! I like tinkering with stuff like that, but trying to keep gold leaf from flying all over the place would be very frustrating to me!
