A tidal bore, is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of the incoming tide forms a wave of water that travels up a river against the direction of the rivers current.
Bores occur in relatively few locations worldwide, usually in areas with a large tidal range and where incoming tides are funneled into a shallow, narrowing rivers, like here in Truro, Nova Scotia.
For us, living in a land-locked country, this is a very interesting phenomenon "a river flowing up-wards".
