This chapel stands alone on a small hill in the center of a little picturesque village, near the place we are staying. It’s like a symbol picture for many small villages here in the valley. This chapel was consecrated to the Holy Family in 1676, but since the 19th century the veneration of Saint Joseph has been more prominent, so that today it is sometimes called after him unofficially.
Nowadays all these little villages can be reached also in winter, but in earlier times the have been cut off from the rest of the world in the long winter months. Hence each little village had an own chapel, sometimes only a tiny one. I love to see them on my hikes/bike tours and always visite them. It‘s wonderful that most of them are in very good condition and well cared for.
Btw, in the foreground you can see one of the typical sheds that stand on the even more typical „mouse-stones“. These flat stones prevent the rodents coming in the shed and from feating on the already scarce grain and supplies. Just, if you wonder!
