Roscón de Reyes by monicac

Roscón de Reyes

This is the typical dessert to have on the Epiphany Day - the last of the Christmas foods!
Oh my goodness, it looks beautiful and delicious.

It looks amazing. Is it a type of bread or more of a cake? Did you make it?

Looks yummy but I bet there’s hundreds of calories

That looks delicious! The Mexican (Rosca de Reyes) doesn't have the cream. It is like a bread.
Does your have a baby in it?
The Mexican one does have a little plastic baby (or sometimes babies). When you have the baby in your piece of the bread you are responsible for bringing Tamales on the 2nd of February.

That looks decadent :)

@busylady It's a type of sweet bread and no, I didn't do it. Apparently it's a really difficult recipe, not worth learning to bake it just once a year!

@ingrid01 Here you can get it with or without cream... we like it with cream ;-) It has a tiny figure of a king (the Three Wise Men are kings in our culture) and a dried bean. If you find the king in your portion, you are crowned kind/queen for the day. If you find the bean, you have to pay for the roscón.

@rosiekind I have the theory that, given it's in honour of the three wise men (who are called Magical Kings in Spain) calories magically disappear.
