I found out yesterday afternoon that my long-time friend of 30+ years, Hannah Northedge, died. She died last week in Croydon, UK at the young and untimely age of 43 years old.
I've known Hannah since we were 10 years old and she attended my primary school for one year and her family went back to the UK. She kept in contact with so many people... and in 1997, I flew over to see her; and tour her wonderful country.
Last year, it was 20 years since my visit and we chatted about how it all seemed as though it was only yesterday... it's been less than a year later, and she committed suicide last week by throwing herself off the cliffs 3 miles from the Grand Hotel at Croydon...
She achieved so much in her singing career - she was a star which shone so brightly and yet burned out too quick - she did have mental problems as what she told me that was wrong with her wasn't the truth.
Please, if you - or somebody you know - is suffering from depression or other mental health issues, help them before it's too late. I couldn't do anything for my wonderful friend except tell her to get psychiatric help; but she refused saying they'd do experiments on her and she'd be lab rat... on her FB page, there were others closer to her who advised the same thing to her as I did; and she didn't want it.
Why do people think that doing away with themselves is the 'easy way out'... it's not when you leave such a huge hole in everyone's else's lives.
Go on Youtube and look for Hannah Northedge. Listen to her wonderful voice. This is what the world missed out on.
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
@digitalrn Oh, Rick, I tried to advise her to get help - even Keith Richards (you know the dude from The Rolling Stones?) told her to get help... everyone she knew on Facebook tried to help her. But she still thought this was the best solution.
Suicide is never the best solution. It destroys the lives of everyone you leave behind.
Stumbel on your post just now, Made me cry first and then to think how its happens to the best of people this condition, I hope you will have the good memory of your beautiful friend, Don't feel as if you could help her, the fact you kept in contact will give you the power you couldn't do anything... big huge
@kerenmcsweeney Thank you for your lovely comment on this. It's really difficult to see somebody who had their whole life ahead of them crumble like this... and don't worry, I'm going to see my therapist tomorrow. Yeah, I'm not handling the grief too well.
