I had more holes poked in my back today (hopefully for the last time for a long time) so I have limited capability for photography today. I rather liked what others did using this technique, so I thought I'd try it. What I found interesting is how the edge of the glass on the dark side reflects the white, while the edge on the light side reflects the blue.
@allisonrap@copperheadglass - Thanks, I'll be fine in a day or two. If it's like last time I'll be sore tomorrow and be back to normal by the end of the week. The recovery was quick and the improvement was huge last time.
The one thing I didn't think about - using white and blue works really well when you are looking at the photo on a grey or black background. However, the default here is very light, so the white stripe on the left edge blends in and the photo looks a bit unbalanced.
Harriet, you did a wonderful job with this composition. I too have seen them done in the past and want to try my hand at one or two of these... :-D ps: wishing you a speedy healing!
@socalgal Thanks, Patty. Things are going along quite well this time. I'll be at work tomorrow (sigh!). It's nice to have a bit of time off where I know I can't do much. I don't take enough downtime, to regenerate my internal "batteries". This was interesting to try, and I like this shot, but not sure I'll go out of my way to try to do it again. The most time consuming part of it was experimenting to get the aperture right. Maybe I should try it with the iPad's camera. Then I wouldn't have to deal with small dof.
@eudora Diane, the fact that the edges reflect the opposite color was the thing I found most fascinating about this, thought it was really cool-looking.
@workinprogress Don't know if this shot shows much of an artistic approach. I'm horrible at still-lifes normally, here I was more or less copying what others have posted here that I really liked. I just added the twist of using blue instead of the black and white I saw mostly in the other examples. I was also somewhat limited when it came to clear glasses - I'm thinking I'll try something similar with etched or cut glass or something with some extra texture. Might not work out at all, but I love experimenting.
