These are the flowers that Mr Tiny Bee from yesterday's shot visited. I like their creamy yellow color. These are winter melon flowers. Winter melon is easily found in markets here. It is used to make winter melon soup.
@summerfield The little speck towards the top of the stamen was an ant. There's a bigger black spot in the center, very close to the ant, if you look carefully. That's a bee. Not Mr Tiny Bee but a friend, I think. 8)
@paulaag The soup is usually made with pork ribs but dried seafood such as scallops, oysters and shrimp can be added for a richer taste. Some prefer a lighter, mildly sweet flavor and add only red dates and wolfberries to the winter melon and pork ribs. Every family probably cooks it a little differently. It's a good, healthy soup to drink. 8)
@paulaag Wolfberries are usually sold in the dried form, and can be added to anything we cook, be it stir-fried vegetables or soup. I always have a pack of them in the fridge. Very handy for adding flavor and sweetness. 8)
i am going to look and see if we have those here. maybe in Indianapolis, which is the biggest nearby city. there are some fresh market kinds of stores and I will look there. I want to try them!
Beautiful! Before I clicked on the thumbnail, they looked small so I thought they were buttercups! I would love to try some winter melon soup! Never heard of it. Nicely done!!
I thought they were melon flowers of some kind, the foliage looks very similar to even a squash or pumpkin. Beautiful shot of them...bring on the melon soup!!!
I just read your personal photographic info! I can see you have a great sense of humor! You dare to say what I don't! Never heard of winter melon but these flowers are probably edible as well as beautiful!
Beautiful flowers, Livia. Nice that Mr. Bee stopped by as you will have lots of melons. You will have to photograph them when they start growing. Soup sounds great.
A great, big, sunshine-kissed, frilly-edged, bright and yellow and happy "THANK YOU!" to all!
Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to stop by. I appreciate your comments and support. Again, thank you so much! Winter melon soup is yummy and I hope you get to try it someday. 8)
