We call this the Nine O'clock Flower. Because it opens every day at nine in the morning. No, I've never actually verified that. Haha. If only I had a garden, I'd plant it and see if it was true. But I'd plant it even if it didn't open at nine in the morning because, it's so pretty, I would enjoy seeing it at any time of the day. 8)
Other names include Sun Flower and Moss Rose, even though it's not a true rose. It's actually a succulent. The scientific name is Portulaca Grandiflora. It's tough, loves the sun and heat and dry soil, and grows easily. It comes in other colors including yellow, orange and white.
Beautiful capture. Great color, texture and dof. Like how you can see the moisture on the bottom right of the flower.
With that....I'm officially caught up your photos. :)
Oh...I'm up to 20 chapters of Rurouni Kenshin. Loving the series. Thanks for introducing me to it. :)
Beautiful pov, Livia ... you've captured the soft textures. Love the color of this one and the tiny droplets. I'm amazed that something this delicate looking is 'tough!' But, yes, strength is an unseen, and sometimes, surprising thing. Even in people. You comments evoke all kinds of thought streams for me ...this is one of those times. And thank you for the great description today on my "flirty" flower. Loved that.
So very beautiful, Livia. If it's "easy to grow" maybe my brown thumbs could handle it ; ) I love those droplets. I so appreciate all the information--so very interesting.
Beautiful shot. We have them here and generally call them Portulacas (which, as you say, is their scientific name). Haven't verified the 9 am thing but might take myself outside one day to see if it's true. Wonder if it would be the same time in a different hemisphere?
Stunning capture although the miniature insect is quite conspicuously absent! I love everything about this and I'm going to find out how tough they really are (I garden by benign neglect) - fav
I have had them in my garden before...and I don't know if they really open at 9...but I do know that they closed each night and reopened each day. I would imagine that they open when the temperature gets to a certain level
Love the little water droplets and colours!
On a completely unrelated note, I saw this video and instantly thought of you. I might have developed a new obsession too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GgAbyYDFeg
Beautiful flower and interesting story. I'd want to plant one of these myself and watch for 9 AM.. Gorgeous color and detail in this shot and it's a fav!
A great, big, pretty and pink and timely "THANK YOU!" to everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedule to stop by! I appreciate it very much. Your support means a lot. Again, thank you very much!

Your description makes me wonder if you do daylight savings time over there. ;)
Great shot and composition, Livia!!
