Albert Schweitzer: "An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight. The truly wise person is colorblind."
I made these many years ago. I call them my Curly Girls on account of their curly hair. Haha. They are all made of Sculpey polymer clay, handmade one by one, even their hair is made one "braid" at a time. I loved colors (I still do) so I made them in all sorts of colors. But I never gave any of them eyes. No particular reason. I just didn't feel they needed eyes. XD
I suppose you might find them creepy. Or cute. Or just plain weird. 8D
Because they are handmade, no two are identical but each one is about 4cm (1.5in) tall. Or rather, short. I gave some away to friends. I still have many more. (The colors have faded over the years.) I didn't make these Curly Girls for any purpose other than that I enjoyed making them. I enjoy working with my hands be it working with clay, thread and needle, or pen and paper. I'm really looking forward to getting back to some of my old, neglected hobbies when I finish my project. 8)
These are wonderful...not a bit creepy! They are as good or better than many of the items I see displayed for sale. You put a lot of work and enjoyment into them, that is plain to see....and noooooo don't talk of leaving 365!!
@gizathecat Nope. I never think about selling anything that I make. I think, if I had to think about selling them, I wouldn't enjoy making them at all. 8)
These are FANTASTIC Livia, I love them, in fact, if the current Mrs O'Neill gets fed up with me, I want to marry the one 2nd from left at the back, the one with orange hair, she looks fun. I import all sorts of stuff from the far east for my business, I think there is an opportunity here.......
I can feel that `` I never think about selling anything that I make. I think, if I had to think about selling them, I wouldn't enjoy making them at all ``. I do have the same. It limits you joy and time you want to work at it and in return you only get money . I think they are funny , and love you choose of colors
They are adorable - What a wonderful bunch of Curly Girls, their colours are very sweet indeed and I am blown away by the fact that you made these. You have an amazing array of talent - Good work and if I had a little chorus of girls like this, I would find it hard to give them away - very cute :)
Amazing capture and another demonstration of you great artistic talent. I seem to recall some other objects made from that material. Anyway Fav for the creation and the capture.
I love them Livia, they are so small and colourful and so sweet. Setting them up like this is beautiful, and fav for all those reasons:)
PS I would love to do sth like this with my girls, can you give me some more details re the materials you use and suppliers? They would love this collection!
They are adorable! You are multi-talented! Have you ever tried cake decorating... I have a friend who is truly an artist in fondant icing... her business is totally booked until the end of the year!
I kinda don't want you to finish the project...as much as it will be wonderful for you to get back to your crafts, where will we go for macros of spiders???? Love your curly girls Livia. They have such character to them.
Eyes are just one (in your face!) way of showing expression and emotion - and these girls are already expressing lots of happiness! Now missing a nose, that's a problem - kidding! They're beautiful.
What talents you have and I love these curly girls so much. With your talent you could probably make a small fortune with ideas like this. I am very impressed!
Nice little figures! A few of my friends used to make little sculptures of this stuff too - I remember one made owls :) I tried once, but mine looked like rocks :) Great collection of colours - especially the hair!
A great, big, colorful, girly and curly "THANK YOU!" to everyone for your kind comments! I enjoyed making these Curly Girls and, if I had the time again (after my project, I hope), I would be more than happy to get back to playing with polymer clay. It just feels really good to be working with my hands. Again, thank you for your supportive feedback. I am grateful for it.
They are very sweet- and could very well be the Professor's class patiently waiting while he's off on one of his exploits! Their curls remind me of the Irish dancers. Of course they might have a bit of difficulty in keeping up with the Riverdance music. What a multi-talented artist you are!
@frida The brand of the polymer clay I use is Sculpey. You can probably find it in any craft store. It comes in many colors and requires baking in an oven to harden. There are lots of websites with information and tutorials for Sculpey clay, to make all kinds of fun figures, cute buttons, etc so if you google you will find them. There's really nothing else you need to start playing, just your hands and your imagination. There are molds and tools for Sculpey but I don't have them or use them. 8)
Livia yet again you bring another talent out of the cupboard. You are just the most creative person. I hope you get to read this as it is a late comment. We will so miss you if you finish but it is such a time consuming project. I have really fallen by the wayside since finishing. Nice shot and they are great too.
Wow. These are amazing! I want one. You either need to share how to make them or make more and sell them on amazong -cough, UK -cough. They are soooooo cute! I like the second one in from the right, but with the one behined its hair, Because, that would be me! - Sorry for the amazingly long comment but WOW This is amazing, Your so talented. A fav for this.. D: AMAZING! xxxx
You are seriously talented and I am seriously envious. I tried to make wee curly girls (something similar) to put on the front of my wedding invitations but could not get their faces right at all! How did you do their mouths?! These are so good!
@mrsg2012 Their mouths are easy. You know how a straw, if you look at it at one end, it is the shape of a circle? Just cut that in half and use (any half of) it to press softly into the clay. And there you have it, instantly, a smile! 8)
PS I would love to do sth like this with my girls, can you give me some more details re the materials you use and suppliers? They would love this collection!
Love your composition and as always it's so colourful and beautiful.
I haven't played with polymer clay for ages.
fav
love your little story too
a lady of many talents.
