getpushed 16 light flare 011

My Get Pushed partner this week is Laura and for my challenge this week she said: "Don't know if you have Guy Fawkes night where you live but if you do then I challenge you to take photos of fireworks (even if only a sparkler)." She then said if I can't do fireworks or sparklers to do light trails.

We don't celebrate Guy Fawkes in the US but I did manage to scrape up a couple sparklers that I tried to play with and this is what I came up with. If I have another go around with this challenge it will have to be light trails since I used up the sparklers.

@la_photographic Laura here is my attempt at my challenge for this week. Let me know what you think.
Thank you for a fun challenge. Always love it when I can try to be creative.

Great shot! Love how the top almost looks like parts of a tree or plant.

I think I am one of the few people in the U.S. who do not know who Guy Fawkes is.

November 9th, 2012
@sassyinma I can help you - you have the same camera as me!
do you know how to use the manual settings?
November 9th, 2012
@myhrhelper I don't! I am trying to learn, but I feel like I just need someone to tell me in layman's terms how to do it!

Oh I have learned so much on this site. I started with a point n shoot and in May I purchased my Nikon D5100. I was determined to learn how to use those settings. I asked others on 365 if there was anyone else who wants to learn them and found out there were a LOT of people just like me. That is why the Camera Settings Challenges started. To have someone teach one setting at a time. I will put a link to some of the previous settings. Start with the first couple challenge 1, 2 etc. and you will learn a lot that way. I would love to help you learn what I know too.

Here is a link to the challenges. Look at challenges and start with #1. http://365project.org/myhrhelper/365/2011-12-12
Have you used the A or S mode or the auto and special programs?
@sassyinma

@myhrhelper Thanks so much! I have been wanting a challenge like that ;) I have used some of the special effects and scenes. I have tried the A mode, but not S. I am thinking about eventually taking classes but would prefer to learn on my own, at my own pace. I shortcutted the Helper link to my desktop so I can start learning!

@sassyinma if you use the s mode the camera will select the aperture you only chane the shutter speed. Put it on s then take a pick. If it is too dark or black you need a slower shutter speed. Just move the dial and try another pic. If you want to freeze motion like kids jumping you need a faster shutter. I will get you more info later I'm not home now so ill wait until I get back

@myhrhelper I'll try that today! My oldest is marching in the Veterans Day parade so I should have lots of photo ops to practiceon ;)
