So are the bokeh's a distraction or a nice addition?

I don't like the bokeh which is a major statement for me because I am a bokeh Wh---. I think it distracts a bit. I would also crop that side of the picture more to be similar in size to the crop by the girl! The bokeh DOES eliminate some of the scenery on his right though. I love the pose and i love the backlight. Well done.

my opinion: the hearts are subtle, and add a creative touch. in addition they remove the distraction of the houses in the background.

Better with, because the background was distracting.. this gives the illusion of a shallower dof.

My opinion is not going to help you at all. I'm not a fan of bokeh but in this case I like the way it has blurred out the distracting background in the other one. If you could blur out the background without the heart shapes it would make a lovely shot even lovelier.
