A Cautionary Tale! by mzzhope

A Cautionary Tale!

So....Even though the woods are still covered in snow and everything is wet. Guess what happened a minute after I set this crystal ball down on the log? That sunflare in the lower right turned into a puff of smoke followed by a small flame which I had to smother with snow!
YIKES, fire starter. Really cool, albeit dangerous shot here!!

My first reaction is to laugh! i am not sure why! I have never heard of anyone having a problem with that. At least you got a shot of it! Awesome shot too, Hope
March 12th, 2014
Oh my! Now this does really tell a story.
March 12th, 2014
@grammyn That was my husbands response too. LOL Once he was sure I had smothered the fire and all was well.
March 12th, 2014
@mzzhope Well of course ! If it had ended badly I wouldn't have laughted at all! When I think of all the people who try to start a fire in this or a similar way and who fail at it and then hear you were trying to just take a photo and started one without even trying it just seems funny.
March 12th, 2014
Haha! Oh no! I'm glad it didn't get out of hand and you ended up with a great shot.
March 12th, 2014
@grammyn I thought it was hilarious too! Do you know how often we have tried to start fires in the fireplace with that wet wood out there? This was almost instant! LOL. Everyone should have one in a survival kit! :)
March 12th, 2014
Ha ha pyro ! Seriously though, you've made many a boy scout jealous - setting fire in the snow!! fav
March 12th, 2014

lol, so difficult to do with a magnifying glass, not anything I've managed with mine, but i do make sure I don't leave certain things on windowsills
March 12th, 2014
This is a fabulous shot with a great title. What a shock for you!
March 12th, 2014
Haha, I understand. I was holding the ball for my Mum to take a picture, and it burnt my hand. So we put it on a log, and smoke came off.
March 12th, 2014
Cool crystal shot despite the fire hazard!
March 12th, 2014
I love these reflective balls, love the them and I must get me one too! But it shoulds like you need to be careful with those, never thought they could be so dangerous!
March 12th, 2014
Wow, we don't realise the power of the sun at this time of year, but you obviously saw it!
Nice photo!

March 12th, 2014
oh my goodness, imagine that in the papers, 'photographer accidently starts massive wildfire through irresponsible crystal ball use....' how big is your ball? I have a glass which is under 2 inches across ... a little small and blurry I discovered today lol
March 12th, 2014
No waaay!!! I want one of these too, but I can totally see that happening to me!! Oh my! Glad you got it under control! How big is this crystal ball?

@luvmynynix this one is about the size of a baseball. I used it at sunrise and in the fog but this was the first ( and maybe last) sunny day!
