Shiny

Problem is, I don't want it shiny! I found this bag at Lifeline (second hand shop) and because of the material and buckle thought it'd be good for a belt pouch for my Abbeyfest costume this year. The only problem is the buckle is too shiny!

I'm not sure the metal, though I know it's a coating. I tried vinegar steam to dull it, no luck. Took a steel wool pad to it but it was too hard so worked it with some sandpaper hubby had from sanding spraypaint. It's dulled down a bit (this being the before shot) but I'm more likely to just remove the surface coat leaving the brass (?) under metal...would be a lot more period accurate at least

Now that's dedication! I like all the striations visible on it now at least.

What about paint? Or covering it with fabric?
