Earlier in the week I spent the day at Santa Pod Raceway watching the drag racing. A great days racing and lots of fun with panning. I took 1199 photos.
This car is currently traveling at about 140 Miles/hr and has traveled about 100 feet from a standing start. It is powered by an 8000 (eight thousand) horsepower engine and has a terminal velocity after quarter of a mile of about 290 miles per hour.
The grip on the ground is amazing. Look at how the tyre is distorted. [View large].
[ All my drag racing shots are manually panned without tripod or monopod. There is no artificial blur or processing applied. Normal exposure controls are applied. Taken with a Canon 5D MkII & Canon EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS II USM using full manual settings ]

What an excellent panning shot! So sharp. And indeed the contrast between the light weight front wheels and the heavy back wheels, still having amazing grip on the road. FAV
Nice panning, that technique is so hard and you have done it so well on somthingthat is soooooooo fast. I'd still be picking up the camera and the car would be gone!
Stunning clarity in your panning shot! Its a wonderful skill to master and is so gratifying when you get a shot like this, despite the hundreds of frames! Fav!
Great capture Brings back memories When I was living in the north part of our country I`ve visit it ( There was an old airplane-field they use for it ) Very exciting
Soooo glad I checked in.......Damon this is absolutely incredible! Magnificent job of handling a wicked difficult shot.............It must have been exhilerating, and deafening. :-))) All my best, Les
