Okay, I was all about ready to give up on a photo for today, when I was reduced to taking photos of the chocolate cake I made for dessert. Then my youngest begged for more and I was lucky enough to snap this.
@thendrix58 Terry almost by fluke really. She had her back against the window which was in twilight and there is only a compact flourescent bulb over head. I manually set the white balance (and you can read the Exif info) 35mm 1.8 lense and the rest is my limited skill in photoshop. I was trying to leave it in colour, but her complexion just seemed to muddy, so I switched it to b&w, which also has some other tones in it (soft pink, warmth etc). I have some auto PSE actions that I can tweak. You can download them from this site (there is a fee) www.paintthemoon.com. (There, I have given away all my secrets!)
@newbie Stacey - PLEASE continue to give away your secrets because I'm a SERIOUS newbie! I'm stuck on Program and just dipping my toe into the ever-intimidating MANUAL setting! LOL! Appreciate any tips you can give! :)
@thendrix58 I did a one day course on how to use your camera on manual and haven't taken it off since (and that was just at the beginning of February) I feel I have already come a long way since then (my first crap photo was valentines day). This project is good because it forces you to or rather motivates you to find something new every day.
I had a "fly by night" lesson by a coworker today and the pics I took today were on Manual. Today's pic was manual but I have many miles to go before I "get it!" You are SO right when you say it forces you, but sometimes, I get so frustrated that I want to throw my beloved camera into the nearby bayou....but I don't.....#1 I spent a bunch of bucks on it and secondly, I REALLY want to LEARN THIS! This is why I love this site w/all of you people. I know I'm not alone in my struggle and the peeps who are experts can help! I think this calls for a GROUP HUG! HUGS ALL AROUND!!!! hahahahha! :)
@geocacheking@tryeveryday@karvimages@nicedof ha sunlight no! Unbelievably a common light bulb overhead. i think somehow the plate had some reflective properties. jp, she did not get more cake...and thank you all (she had more today though)
a fav! you captured a moment, a look, and it kinda tells a story....plus, her eyes are AMAZING! i'm trying to do more portrait stuff lately, so i'm gonna keep my eye on you and your pics!
@sticksandstones A good lense help. I have a 35mm 1.8, (Nikon) but apparently the 50mm 1.8 is very good for portraiture. Allows you to get just a bit closer. I just make sure the eyes are sharp, and the rest usually falls into place.
