Actually taken on 7th not 5th November. I took the girls and some of their friends to a fireworks display last night just so I could practice taking photos of fireworks. I was really happy with how a lot of my shots turned out. The ones in this collage are all SOOC apart from some cropping.
These are really good .. look like a lot of pretty flowers.. We had a few sparklers and fireworks last night but they were all fizzers.. think it is best to go to these big displays..
@missalice Thanks Alice. I did use a tripod but I was sat on the ground with my legs in between the legs of the tripod so I'm not sure how steady it was.
@julzmaioro Thanks Julia. We went to Huntly speedway but there were so many people we were in a traffic jam for three quarters of an hour from the highway to the track. I think that's put me off from going there again.
@alextheseal Thanks David. I looked on 365 at the settings for some fireworks shots I liked and used those as an idea for a starting point. But for me it was a bit of trial and error. The tripod certainly helped. I didn't try to zoom in too close, but tried to concentrate more on focus, thinking I could crop later. Also the ones where it had gotten quite smokey were not as good. Fireworks seems to be quite bright when they're fully exploding so these shots are all taken on f6.3 and ISO 100. I played with adjusting the focal length and exposure time while I was taking them. Also I used continuous shooting mode even though the exposure time made it quite slow. This is the third time I've tried fireworks using manual settings and I definitely got better shots this time. I hope all that helps a bit. It was quite a long display and I took loads of shots. Normally I would've discarded most but this time I actually liked most of them. Hence the collage because I couldn't pick one favourite so went for a variety of shapes and colours.
These are fantastic shots Nick. I'm very impressed! I shall print off your tips for future reference. Now that I've been a photography workshop I understand them!!
Yes, these really came out perfectly! Your playing with the settings and sticking to manual was a wise way to go, and your array of selection in the collage works effectively for the composition.
