I got super excited when I saw Mr Kipling cakes in a supermarket in NZ this week, especially these Bakewell tarts; not because Mr Kipling are especially nice but because Bakewell tarts are not something I've seen in the 9½ years I've been living here and I love them. I've even googled Bakewell tart recipes but not had a go at baking any as yet. Anyway this was my Juxtaposition for the day - Mr Kipling in the kiwi sunshine. The supermarket also had Cadbury mini rolls so I bought some for my daughters. They got super excited too and said they reminded them of when they were little girls living in the UK. Isn't it funny how the oddest things can evoke such strong memories.
They delicious, I love Mr Kipling, he makes exceedingly good cakes. Didn't that used to be the ad line.
We can get Mr Kipling mince pies here in the run up to Christmas and I am thankful that we can only get them at that time of year instead of all year round because I really pig out on them and I would be the size of a house if we were able to buy them all year round. ha ha.
I have a friend living in Australia whose mum ships certain foods out to her. She always posts on FB going crazy for the things she misses. I hope you enjoyed your Cherry Bakewells :)
I’d prefer the mini rolls, but I really miss galaxy chocolate and hula hoops! Both you can buy here, but at terribly inflated prices so only an occasional treat! Still buying Yorkshire tea bags though
You have been deprived Nick! Happy eating! I bet they were expensive! I've been in the English shop in Cambridge & it's quite fascinating comparing prices!
@brigette I've missed them although there's not much I do miss :) @k1w1 These have an almond flavour - the cherry is decoration so can just be taken off :) We used to get lemon flavour as well in the UK but that's not the traditional flavour. @onewing Definitely exceedingly good cakes Babs:) I'd have to avoid the mince pies too! @paul10 Lol. Luckily I don't miss much... apart from Ikea - I miss Ikea! @yorkshirekiwi Galaxy chocolate is the best! @julzmaioro I've been there a couple of times but try to avoid it because I always spend too much money :) @alinz Maybe I'll try making some one day. @happypat Actually luckily they weren't too expensive so that's why I bought them. :) I know UK things can be very costly here though - we always get people to bring Shreddies for the girls because they cost $12 or more a box here :O @rickster549 They were really yum, thanks Rick :) @agedrunner Thanks Richard.
