Folks eating lunch outside by City Hall. I wish this had come out clearer. Frustrated as a lot of my shots today came out a bit blurry and I'm not sure why. I had my telephoto today, and yesterday's shots with regular zoom were much sharper! Oh well... I was feeling a bit rushed at lunchtime today so that may be the problem. Of course the shots that came out effing PERFECTLY were the ones of pigeons giving me the hairy eyeball. I will spare you those, however :)
@sheg lately i'm finding the more i look, the less i see (with the grand exception of pigeons, of course @@@)... this was just a throw away shot... but it ended up the most intersting of the bunch (other than the pigeons... of course....)
Really fun shot to look at! Love to look at all the people in this photo -- really excellent composition as well. Yeah, maybe a little blurry, but composition and subject rule the day! Great job!!!
shutterspeed is fine, maybe a little out of focus? Perhaps when using the long lens bump the ISO up to 200. You could shoot this at 1/1600 then without getting any noise issues.
Otherwise a cool shot though. Good use of long focal length 'compression' :)
Pretty much what @dieter said, I'd maybe even bump the ISO to 400 next time and see what difference it makes, what mode do you normally shoot in? I think the focus may have been struggling here too hence the loss of sharpness
tx so much for all the nice comments and encouragement... it really made my day today :)
Natalie... i do have IS, and it WAS on... so that wasn't the issue...
@dieter@pwallis@sporter85 thank you so much for the tip! i've been trying to keep ISO really low and i think you're right that this is not the best idea... tried a higher ISO today, in daylight, and i think results were better, but i was taking very different shots, so hard to say for sure... but i don't think the shots suffered for it... :)
@northy with my camera (Nikon D200) I can still get really good raw processing up to 250-320iso, and nice results when well exposed up to ~500 iso. Anything from 800 up is rubbish. Newer DSLRs are much better in that respect though
what @dieter and @pwallis said. Another thing you can do, if you still have trouble keeping the camera steady when using the telephoto, is to use one hand to support the lens while you take the picture. I see people all the time holding the camera body while snapping away with a telephoto... even with image stabilization on the lens, the image can come out as a "soft focus". But I totally agree with @gark .... composition and subject are the important thing here. I think this is great

@5unflow3r tx!!!
@reemo yes - gorgeous at NPS today... except for the skating rink, which is presently a great big puddle...
Do you have image stabilisation on your telephoto lens? I find it quite hard to keep my hands still when using my telephoto at 200mm!
Otherwise a cool shot though. Good use of long focal length 'compression' :)
