for week 51 of the Dogwood challenge, we're asked to "use exposure compensation mode... to capture backlit or other challenging lighting situations..."
all four images were taken on the same settings other than exposure compensation... and all have been minimally processed using the same settings in LR...
so... i'm not sure what to make of this... i almost NEVER let the camera choose the "correct" exposure... inevitably this results in something like what you see on the far right which is horribly over exposed... going from left to right, its -3 EV, -2 EV, -1 EV and 0... i think i like -2 best, although i desperately want to tweak some of the blacks in the bottom left...
incidentally, this challenge did not ask us to consider the setting which helps the camera decide whether to evaluate light based on the whole scene or just where the focal point is... right now my camera is on the setting to evaluate light based on the whole scene and i'm too tired and hungry to go back and play with that setting, but i do think it would change things somewhat...
Good Demo. Maybe it's -2 for me too although I do like the more intense black of -3 ... that coupled with the feet of -2 might be just so? Appreciate that the tweaking necessary would be against the rules.
Interesting - I like the -3 and have to admit if using DSLR I always forget about exposure compensation. This really shows I need to use it more often - thanks!
