Union Station - Redux by northy

Union Station - Redux

So this is the BIG shot - still cropped a bit ('cos i had that fish-eye bendy thing happening at the edges from shooting wide with my kit lens)... it's also a different edit... (and for anyone who cares, it's looking at it from the other end from where my shot on Dec 3 was taken)...

I posted a very cropped version in my main album...

Feel free to let me know if you prefer one over the other... or not ;p

This was taken for the one night stand challenge... today's theme being architecture...

Wonderful! Really love the perspective
January 11th, 2013
That is mighty! What a big building

This has a massive big building feel...good architecture shot! I like the crop for the street feel. :)

Beautiful shot! Such a nice variety of textures!
January 11th, 2013
Stunning.
January 11th, 2013
I LOVE this! Fantastic perspective, repetition and processing! Fav!
January 11th, 2013
it's a cool part of the station...well shown.
January 11th, 2013
Love the long perspective on this one...more chance for the repeating column pattern to look awesome.
January 11th, 2013
it does look kind of massively long building, but actually it isn't. i like our union station and heavens i've seen about 10 other union stations everywhere. great shot!
January 11th, 2013
Love this shot! Great processing! Fav!
January 11th, 2013
I really like both and can't decide!
January 11th, 2013
Beautiful pov
January 11th, 2013
excellent theme shot... beautiful!
January 11th, 2013
I can't decide either...they are both phenomenal!!
January 11th, 2013
Fav for me, wonderfully composed
January 11th, 2013
This is fantastic! I love the figure in the shot! Fav!
January 11th, 2013
Absolutely stunning!
January 11th, 2013
I've gone back and forth between the two because I couldn't decide which one I liked more. Then it hit me--I love the rail on the left that draws your eye across the frame and to the walking man. So, this, in all its grandeur, is my 900th fav!!
January 11th, 2013
This is fantastic northy. Loooove how you composed it and the processing is fab, fave!
January 11th, 2013
Oh defo this one because the architecture dwarfs the human. Much bigger sense of scale. Fav

Lyn
Just SO good, Northy. . . wonderfully done. F
January 11th, 2013
I prefer this wide shot - all that amazing symmetry... broken by the human form. Very nice indeed! :)
January 11th, 2013
I honestly do not know how you chose between the two shots because they are both over the top awesome, each in it's own way. This one really appealed to me for sheer scope, but the composition of the other was was so incredibly perfect.
January 11th, 2013
this is my fave of the two, i like the composition, depth and the amazing processing... the lighter processing changes the mood completely. Fave.
January 11th, 2013
This one is cool, really gives a sense of the vastness of the structure.
January 11th, 2013
The pillars really pull me into the photo!
January 11th, 2013
Amazing. Love the color in this. Great shot!
January 11th, 2013
Love this one as well as has been said above, it really gives you a feel of the vastness of the building!
January 11th, 2013
That person really puts the massiveness of the building in perspective!
January 11th, 2013
great sense of scene, love the repetition - instead fav for me!
January 11th, 2013
I like this so much. The dude looks like his dancing, love that :) If you ever revisit this shot, consider doing panorama, because I think it would be cool to see more of the left side and put the corridor more to the right. You know, wide crop and rules of thirds and stuff... :)
January 11th, 2013
FAV! :)
January 11th, 2013
I love them both Northy, but this is my fave'd! for the same reason as you
January 11th, 2013
That is a grand old building - Love it :)
January 11th, 2013
As an architectural shot, I prefer this one as the building is the main focus for me. I think the closer crop works better as a 'people' shot.
Love the edit.
January 11th, 2013
Fabulous pov and love the tones
January 11th, 2013
Totally gorgeous. You really get the sense of the size of it with the person walking by. FAB, FAV
January 11th, 2013
Nice lines, and especially the figure to scale the whole image is wonderful.

The "fisheye" thing... Would a simple Lens Correction Filter (or similar if you don't use PS) get rid of this for you? I find it helps no end, even to get your verticals right without having to resort to any perspective correction.
January 11th, 2013
This is fab northy. Almost said groovy and slipped back to the 60s!!! Fav
January 11th, 2013
Gotta say...both are awesome, but this one I love more. So incredible. Depth is stunning. Fav.
January 11th, 2013
FAB fav
January 11th, 2013
A beautiful Fav. Of the two, I love the uncropped version more. It conveys the grand scale of the building.
January 11th, 2013
Awesome. Fav xx
January 11th, 2013
@frankhymus thank you!! never knew about that before... just tried it on another photo... not sure if i like the result or not, but definitely nice to know it's there!
January 12th, 2013
@janim tx Jani... i think it's a bit of an optical illusion... it really is just a long corridor, for lack of a better word, between the wall of the building and the columns... if you look at my photo from dec 3 http://365project.org/northy/365/2012-12-03 which was taken from the opposite end - it looks pretty much the same... the floor takes this funny dip in the middle and it's not even on right and left hand side... anyway it's really hard to explain and it boils down to i'm not sure a pano would work ;p
January 12th, 2013
@northy Right. There if you need it.
January 12th, 2013
I like this one better, the sense of scale is powerful.
Fav!
(im up on the PP with you)
January 12th, 2013
Oh very cool, this is fantastic (I'll fav this too :))
January 12th, 2013
Love the seemingly grandeur of the place and the small people. Great processing too. Fav
January 12th, 2013
I prefer this one. Love the crop and the processing. Fav for sure!!
January 12th, 2013
Wow. I love both shots. Fav.
January 12th, 2013
This is wonderful - I really like the grand scope of the image!
January 13th, 2013
Its a fine shot even without that figure - but I just love that you so often wait for someone to enter the frame and, of course, your perfect timing.
January 13th, 2013
Wow, fantastic! Fave!
January 13th, 2013
They are both fabulous, but I lean toward this one because I love the immenseness of the building, revealed by the presence of the man.
Great processing. Fav.
January 20th, 2013
Fav. Fantastic
January 21st, 2013
@peterdegraaff tx Peter! this would be my third highest fav'd shot and it isn't in my top ten rated in my stats! go figure...
January 21st, 2013
@northy hard to understand.
January 21st, 2013
With this one you lose the distant figure which is a shame, but I like it even better because it is a great architecture shot! Yet that guy makes it for me - I love the small human/grand human construction contrast.
January 24th, 2013
So great. I love it.
