So this is the BIG shot - still cropped a bit ('cos i had that fish-eye bendy thing happening at the edges from shooting wide with my kit lens)... it's also a different edit... (and for anyone who cares, it's looking at it from the other end from where my shot on Dec 3 was taken)...
it does look kind of massively long building, but actually it isn't. i like our union station and heavens i've seen about 10 other union stations everywhere. great shot!
I've gone back and forth between the two because I couldn't decide which one I liked more. Then it hit me--I love the rail on the left that draws your eye across the frame and to the walking man. So, this, in all its grandeur, is my 900th fav!!
I honestly do not know how you chose between the two shots because they are both over the top awesome, each in it's own way. This one really appealed to me for sheer scope, but the composition of the other was was so incredibly perfect.
I like this so much. The dude looks like his dancing, love that :) If you ever revisit this shot, consider doing panorama, because I think it would be cool to see more of the left side and put the corridor more to the right. You know, wide crop and rules of thirds and stuff... :)
As an architectural shot, I prefer this one as the building is the main focus for me. I think the closer crop works better as a 'people' shot.
Love the edit.
Nice lines, and especially the figure to scale the whole image is wonderful.
The "fisheye" thing... Would a simple Lens Correction Filter (or similar if you don't use PS) get rid of this for you? I find it helps no end, even to get your verticals right without having to resort to any perspective correction.
@frankhymus thank you!! never knew about that before... just tried it on another photo... not sure if i like the result or not, but definitely nice to know it's there!
@janim tx Jani... i think it's a bit of an optical illusion... it really is just a long corridor, for lack of a better word, between the wall of the building and the columns... if you look at my photo from dec 3 http://365project.org/northy/365/2012-12-03 which was taken from the opposite end - it looks pretty much the same... the floor takes this funny dip in the middle and it's not even on right and left hand side... anyway it's really hard to explain and it boils down to i'm not sure a pano would work ;p
They are both fabulous, but I lean toward this one because I love the immenseness of the building, revealed by the presence of the man.
Great processing. Fav.
With this one you lose the distant figure which is a shame, but I like it even better because it is a great architecture shot! Yet that guy makes it for me - I love the small human/grand human construction contrast.
Love the edit.
