pushed to etsooi madness by northy

pushed to etsooi madness

ok... lemme explain... see, @fishy gave me this cool get pushed challenge to think of a photo from a fellow 365'er that has inspired me... then i was supposed to recreate that photo, but do it in a way that the end result becomes my very own...

`cept i blew it...

i`ve always been so tremendously impressed by Amy Spada`s lovely simple doorways and walls with the gorgeous warm colour tones and textures... and i wanted to do something like that... only i really haven`t the foggiest idea how...

and after a ridiculous amount of time playing in Lightroom and colour efex, i ended up here and i`m not sure what this is... i`m posting it because i don`t entirely dislike it, and i did want Andrew to know that i tried :)

here are a couple of Amy`s shots that i was drawing inspiration from... please ignore mine and go look at hers :)

and might i say you did an excellent job. it's like amy's if only because of the colour, but the comp is all northy. etsooi it a bit more towards the high key and convert to black and white and you got a 110% northy. guaranteed!

Not sure whats casting that jagged shadow on the steps, but that's what gives this shot a little zing. I like it!

Awesome shot

I really like this a lot. It does remind me of Amy's photos. The composition is lovely -- both tones and content.

I can see the influence! I like the hint of people in the window - almost like 2 halves of different images - it's very cool, and very you!

I love Amy's work too and whenever I've attempted to replicate her style have failed dismally...however, I do like this. An influence isn't necessarily an absolute copy, in fact it's better to put some of yourself into it, which you've done. This is different for you in that it's very light and airy and pastelly but that doesn't make it a bad shot. Love the comp, love the different elements and I agree with Cromwell @cromwell the jagged shadow is wonderful xx

I like how you stayed true to yourself...definitely your shot with Amy influence!

I think this might be better in your usual b&w. I know that isn't normally Amy's style but I think the beauty of Amy's shots is in their simplicity and losing the colour would make this simpler. I love the shapes and shadows in this but the colours are just a little distracting.

well done lady! :)

This is a really fascinating shot. Like the whole story and process behind it. Very cool push.

You got the shadow. :)
Amy's shots are deceptive in their simplicity - and you can definitely see echoes of her style here.

I love your thinking that has led you to a quite different shot for you. I love the tones in this.

Wow, TWO responses to the challenge! Hope you had some fun in the process, Ms Northy. I have never seen any of Amy's work, but there is certainly lots going on here!
