Not a red-billed francolin

A lot of the common names of birds have been changed recently, and this is now called a red-billed spurfowl. Most of us here are sulking about the name changes, and still use the old, familiar ones.

These guys are very shy, so I was lucky to snap it from my office window, where it was competing with the matabele ants (and an even shyer mongoose) for some of those harvesters! They are also very comical, and if anyone has seen "The Wrong Trousers", they are very reminscent of the chicken-penguin in the way they walk and sneak about.
Name changes are a pain & I still get into problems using old ones; & names between different countries, as in our "divers" & American "loons".
Anyway, good shot!

He's a cutie, and I totally agree with you about the name changes, the most ridiculous being the Go Away Bird!

@piedfly @groovygirlrn @pawar_ramesh @grannysue @24atlantic @dishaparekh176 - Thank you! Sometimes I think that there are people sitting in rooms classifying things, and they're afraid of making themselves redundant, so they find ways of rearranging things just to keep themselves busy...

Well done for snapping him up. As for bird name changes, road name changes, town name changes - In SA it's becoming a real pain.....and unnecessary expense.
