Day 1 with the new(er) camera and trying to understand all the different settings. This camera has an option called "scene mode" which has 15 pre-set photo options, one of them being "fireworks". I decided to dabble with some sparklers I had left over from the Fourth of July. I do like the way I was able to catch those little sparks flying off of the sparkler, but the center seems a little too bright for my preference. But that's what experimenting, testing and learning is all about. I'll revisit this again when I get more sparklers!
Adding this to the Treasure Hunt challenge for the word "sparkle".
@bk12racing Thanks Mike! @michaelelliott Thanks Michael! @allie912 Thanks Allison- I thought that too! @mrssmith Thanks Carla- I don't think I've mastered it, but this setting was almost like auto focus, so I'm interested to see how I might be able to do this on a manual setting the next time. @annwebbie Thanks Laura! @summerfield Thanks Vikki! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @sanera Thanks Samantha!
Well, I've only just started with this camera, and it's going to take a while to get used to working all the dials and settings- but I appreciate all your enthusaistic comments. Tomorrow- a new shot and a new setting.
@sarasdadandmom Oh and I was going for a bad hair day look. oh well. @digitalrn Thanks Rick- yes, I'll definitely have to find a firework display this year now that I have a camera that can take pictures of them! @karenann Thanks Karenann- won't be long before you'll be showing off your new camera too!
@prttblues Thanks Bev- it's basically sooc. I only used the sharpen tool in Picnik on it. @dmariewms Thanks Marie. There'll be plenty of that in the days to come! @bkbinthecity Thanks Brian. It worked ok for this, but I'm not crazy about the overly white center. I think it might have come out better in the manual setting with a slower shutter speed. Something to try out in the future. @karenann Oh, I sort of remember that now- on auto right? And you're hoping the classes will help you to switch to manual. Good job then Karenann!
@annaruth Thanks Anna! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! So this is the crazy state I live in. It is not illegal to set off firecrackers and sparklers in the state of PA. And it is not illegal to sell them. BUT it is illegal for PA residents to purchase them. It is illegal in NJ to set off firecrackers, but it is not illegal for NJ to drive out of state and purchase them. Since we live so close to the NJ border, you can figure out what happens from there! Some stores will sell you the sparklers without too much trouble, but the firecrackers they're pretty strict about. It makes absolutely no sense to me that we can set them off but we can't buy them! Actually, I'm only interested in the sparklers and would never set off the firecrackers, but it's still a crazy law!
Ann, neat shot! Well, at least you started using your camera. Mine is still in the box almost like it's daring me to try ;-) Actually it's another EasyShare camera, though a Max version with 30x zoom and more capabilities -- easy to set up, but still....... I need to get out my sparklers, better late than never ;-)
@shuterfly Thanks Sondra! Well, now you know what to do with them! And an apple makes a perfect sparkler holder so that you can shoot with both hands! @simster Thanks Simmy! @alia_801 Thanks Alia. I used an apple as my sparkler holder. They work really well and if the "girls" like them you can cut it up afterwards and share! @woot Thanks Davide! Happy New Year! @nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! Happy New Year to you too! @cimes1 Thanks Carole! Time to get the new camera out of the box, set up some sparklers (I used an apple to hold the sparkler) and shoot! I'm sure your new camera has a setting similar to this one, so go for it!!
@steeler Thanks Howard- it's a new to me camera and I'm looking forward to becoming more proficient with it as the year progresses. It gives me the feeling of a whole new 365 not just a continuation of last year.
@geertje Thanks Geertje. I had fun with this shot. @crickle1969 Thanks Crickle! They're fairly simple to do. My biggest obstacle was figuring out what to put it in so that I could hold the camera with both hands! So I ended up sticking it in an apple!
@flydragon Thank you Flydragon! And a very happy New Year to you too! Thank you so much for all your comments. I so appreciate them and your amazing talent!
