Many of you noted the way the seeds swirl in the center of the flower. There is a name for that but I can't remember it right now! It's some sort of mathematical principal which is why! lol But it really is one of the more fascinating aspects of the flower.
fibonacci sequence maybe? that's difficult to understand, but this shot is so clear, i can make out the spiral shapes of the groups and they almost move, kinda like a kaleidoscope. and i haven't drunk anything yet! nice!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- yes, that was it. I know I've heard of it, but I don't remember what it actually is. Someone had posted it on the last coneflower shot I took. @michaelelliott Thanks Michael! I love the color of these plants, but looking at it in b/w makes me notice even more of the pattern in the center. That's one of the reasons I like going back and forth in genres. It refines your ability to see things in different ways. @cimes1 Thanks Carole! @httpgeffed Thanks Colleen! @alia_801 Thanks Alia! I think I'm actually going to work off the floral shape. I was scouting out my home and garden yesterday and I think I have a week's worth to go on.
@juliedance Thank you Julie! I had thought about circles, but I think I'm actually going to try floral shapes. I think I have enough subjects for the week. I'll have to jump over and take a look at yours- sounds like it will be quite pretty!
wow Ann I think in b/w you see so much more details..from now on I'll have to look for the spiral shapes in the centre of the flowers..they look so neat. you made a good choice for this week's challenge..I hope I find more round circle in photography items or close ones to it.
@bruni Thanks Bruni! I'm about to make my choice for today's post. We'll see what turns up! @zshadowwalker Thanks Adrian! This is an Ecchinacea plant- or Coneflower as they are sometimes called. I just did a color shot of one the other day in my Themes and Competitions album. @anazad511 Thanks Ana! @myautofocuslife Thanks Livia! @ruthmouch Thank you Ruth!
@jesperani Thank you Jennifer! It's such a beautiful flower in that aspect. What you don't see here is how this flat flower head will actually grow upwards and expand turning it into a cone shape- hence the name Coneflower.
@automaticslim Thanks Andy! I really hemmed and hawed about this week. I had it set in my mind last week that I was going to shoot in sepia this week only to discover that b/w was assigned! So I had to rethink all my thoughts on what I would shoot. I settled on this only because I thought this shot looked great in the full-screen format. As you said- this week should be interesting. @daisy Thanks Kathryn! It was somewhat by default. What I'd originally intended to do didn't match the criteria so I ended up switching gears. But I think I'm going to like how this ends up. @wenbow Thank you Wendy!
I think I may have started the whole Fibonacci sequence thing. . .my husband pointed it out to me and I was floored by all of the information on the web about how the appearance of this mathematical sequence in NATURE! You can just google it and come up with all sort of information - isn't it neat how your b&w processing really brings that out!?
@lesphoto Thanks Leslie- had a completely different week in mind- but I was going to shoot in sepia. Then I realized the challenge was for b/w! But this seemed to be a promising start.

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry! This shot is a great example of why I like to switch off from color every now and then. It gets you to look at something in a different way other than the one you're used to.
