Railing by olivetreeann

Railing

I took this on Sunday in our church's balcony. Since I didn't really like anything I took today, I decided to use it here. This stretch of railing is in front of a beautiful stained glass window that graces the back of the church. Sadly this beautiful wood has been painted. I wish someone could restore it to its original beauty.
I like this very much. The diagonal line of the posts creates a strong composition. It reminds me of pawns lined up.

I suppose it looks cleaner when its painted. Lovely turned wood here and nicely shot!

@dakotaburns Thanks Donald! Yes, that's what I though too.
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! At some point in time someone may have felt that painting it would be better. They painted the arches in the ceiling too. But it would look so much better if they went back to the natural wood.

Painting is so much easier to maintain, but you lose a lot of character. I've done the same thing in our home.

let's go one night with strippers and strip the paint. yes, strippers as in paint strippers. :-) you seem to be ocd'ing about the painting. hehehe! nice pov, ann.

Wonderful shot and lighting. Indeed churches are so rich with architectural and design features, but the cheap maintenance cause these riches to lose a lot of character.

Nice shot Ann. At least the railing is still there even if it has been painted

Lovely perspective, like the monotone. It is rather sad to see wood painted!

"Juice!" (I'm letting Magic -parrot- help me comment on photos today. She has a slightly limited, food orientated vocabulary!)
I think she agrees with you about the paint...

Great pic of the railing - we get a sense of the light from the window even though we can't see it.

At first I thought it was a chess game board. Great POV, lighting and shadows.

Thank you Dixie, Carole, Maggie, Dione, Henri, Vickie, Kathryn, Phil, Rashella, Bev, and Ellen!

Thank you all for such positive feedback. I was a little tentative on this one at first. I wasn't sure about the lighting, but you've convinced me it's fine.

@filsie65 No, you haven't seen this one yet Phil- maybe around Easter- it's quite a window!
@ellimae I think I have enough on my plate right now Ellen (o: I write a weekly bulletin insert, teach HS Sunday School, and lead the women's ministry. Plus there's 365!
