First shot in a week of macros! I'm looking forward to this. I loved the feeling of texture getting close to these old quilts produced in black and white. If you're in the southern hemisphere, I'm sure the last thing you want to think about right now is a quilt! But for those of us in the northern hemisphere, snuggling up in a quilt sounds really nice!
Brings back beautiful memories of Gran. She made quilts like this many many years ago long before it became the fashionable thing to do here in Australia. Love your choice of b&w. Really focuses the attention on the textures.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @mzbull Thank you MZ! @ubobohobo Thank you Margaret! The ones on the top and bottom are from my grandmothers, although they didn't make them (at least I know my grandmother Jones did not make the bottom one which came from her house).
I live in the southern hemisphere and believe me when I say, two night ago and for two nights this would not have been enough quilts for us!!! It was down to the single digits here!! I LOVE quilts and afghans!!! I have made one quilt and probably 100 afghans!!! (Crocheted) These are beautiful and would love to have them!! They look wonderful in B/W!! FAV!
I love all the differnt textures in the quilts. I have made a fair few quilts although mostly cot sized ones for friends and family when babies were born. I have made a couple of queen sized ones but so time consuming and not something you want to do in the summer, especially since I do all the quilting by hand!
Presenting this in B&W definitely puts the focus on the textures and patterns of these quilts where otherwise we might just notice the comforting colors of them.
@radiogirl Thank you Kathy! @pippie Thank you Linda! @anazad511 Thank you Ana! @taffy Thank you Taffy! @skstein Thanks Sandy! @kt8ird Thanks Kate! @tabarlett Thank you Tammy! @cashew Thanks Kathy! You may live in the South (not sure which state, but I'm pretty sure you said you lived in the South once), but you're still in the Northern Hemisphere! If I remember my grammar school geography correctly, anything above the Equator is considered the Northern Hemisphere, and anything below it, the Southern Hemisphere. And thank you so much for the fav! (o:
@aikimomm Thank you Phoebe! @bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! That's a treasure to keep. @alia_801 Thanks Alia! Glad the temps have cooled off a bit for you! If there's any extra warmth you'd like to send this way, go right ahead! We're in the second coldest winter ever recorded since they started keeping track.
@fntngrma Thanks Rosan! @flyrobin Thanks Robin! @neatz Thank you Anita! @overalvandaan Thank you Saxa! I'm glad you've enjoyed the month. I have been so busy lately I have not been able to check the tag as often as I'd hoped but when I do, I'm amazed by all the great shots! @yaorenliu Thank you Yao! Stay warm then- there's nothing better in a cool evening than snuggling under a beautiful blanket. @salza Thank you Sally! I've seen your artwork, so I imagine your quilts are just as beautiful! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @lyndemc Thank you Denise! Gibson really made a point to show how black and white brings out the best in texture. @pammerritt Thanks Pam! @bill_fe Thanks Bill!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! And thank you for the fav! @thresheg Thank you Graham! @nicoleterheide Thanks Nicole! The macro week was put in by request, but you do not have to do macros if you don't want to. I know you've been following more closely to the book, so feel free to continue doing that if you'd like. Gibson did make note of how black and white really brings out texture and detail, so that goes well with macros.
@craftymeg Thank you Margaret! @quietpurplehaze Thank you Hazel! Your mother sounds like a very gracious woman! @pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! They are much like a tapestry of color blocks!
You always have such an eye for textures and patterns, so this style of photography is right up your alley! Looking forward to all your shots. Love this one!
@edie Thanks Edie! I'm blessed in that two of these (top and bottom) were inherited from my grandmothers. The middle one was a gift from a good friend. It's not an antique- not even made in the USA- but she knew how much I like them and it was really inexpensive to buy them when she visited China in the late 80's.
@wordsmith Thank you Teresa! The whole month has been black and white- all different aspects of shooting in monotone. The second album has all the color.
Excellent shot. The textures are nice. They look so warm. I may just have to reach through my monitor and snag one of them to snuggle up with! It's cold up here!
@mzbull Thank you MZ!
@ubobohobo Thank you Margaret! The ones on the top and bottom are from my grandmothers, although they didn't make them (at least I know my grandmother Jones did not make the bottom one which came from her house).

Thank you Bev, Sandi and Daisy! We're keeping warm with comforters and a fire in the woodstove.
