Well, here it is Spring and there is fresh snow on the ground. Quite typical for March in eastern Pennsylvania. We had a photo walk planned for our photo club today and although we would have loved green on the trees and no snow on the ground, we made the best of it and went to Hidden Lake in hopes of catching the snow on the trees before the expected warm temperatures melted it off. Of course I was not drawn to what we planned to shoot! Instead I saw these cattails by the shore line and immediately knew I wanted to capture them in high-key. I love the result!
I knew this was yours before I scrolled down to your name. Really perfect composition, and I love the "high key" (that's a new phrase for me) tone of the shot.
It's a lovely high-key shot! (I took a shot of bulrushes recently {by the pond of those geese} and in researching online about them, found they are the same as cattails in America.)
@cashew Thank you Kathy and thank you so much for the fav! @httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! @taffy Thank you Taffy! @aikimomm Thank you Phoebe! I don't always think of my photos as having a distinct style but your comment has made me think again!
@tabarlett Thank you Tammy and thanks so much for the fav! We are in East Stroudsburg. I think Harrisburg is about two and a half hours from us- it's been a while since we drove out that way. It would not be impossible to do a meet-up one day! We'd just have to figure out a half way point (and since I know you have young children) and a fun place to go. I had a feeling you were from PA from the pictures you've posted!
@salza Thank you Sally! I've heard them called that as well- it's probably more regional as to what they're called here. I always knew them as cattails, but when you really think about it, they don't really look like a cattail at all! @quietpurplehaze thank you Hazel. That's really interesting. I have heard them called bulrushes but I'm not sure where. Both are funny (odd) names for these plants. I don't think they look like cattails and I'm not sure how you'd come up with a name like "bulrush" to begin with!
@joansmor Thank you Joan! I only enjoyed it while I was taking pictures! Thankfully most of it has melted already.
@susale Thank you Suse! @skstein Thank you Sandy! @pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! And thank you so much for your fav! @bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! Ours is just about gone already. Thankfully the sun has done its job! @henrir Thank you Henri! LOL yeah- Spring!! Actually this is quite typical for March. You'd think we'd be used to it by now.
@lsquared Thanks Larry! @radiogirl Thank you Kathy! @maggiemae Thank you Maggie! And thank you so much for the fav! I was very excited to see that the Cattails and my Junco are on there together. I don't think the thrill of that ever wears off. And your honeysuckle is there too!
