This week the Hang It All theme is featuring pictures we'd hang in our living room. I have always had a painting hanging over my mantle so this week I'm taking some of my photos and turning them into paintings.
Today's picture was originally taken last May (2014) at the New Jersey Sculpture Garden. It is a 3D replica of Monet's "La Promenade a l'ombrelle" painted by the master in 1875 at Argentenuil. I have actually seen the original when I visited the National Gallery in Washington D. C. during my undergrad days as a Fine Arts major. Too bad I can't afford the original. I think it looks pretty good over my mantle!
First, I love mantles. Haven't had one since I was a kid, but love yours!!! Love all the photos, candles and hurricane lamp!! Your photo of the painting looks great in a frame and up there!!! FAV!
i was going to go with a similar style of just one frame and super-impose the photo on the frame, but the living room is a little bit in chaos and i'm not so inclined to move things out of the way just for a shot. aces for this.
Little doubt that this canvas and photo are absolutely gorgeous, but, personally, I preferred the coloration and "old-painting quality" of the other over the mantle.
@taffy Thank you Taffy! I'm enjoying the interchangeable painting aspect in the photographic aspect. If I really had to change out the paintings, it would never get done!
@cashew Thank you Kathy and thank you so much for the fav! The photos are all family members, the candles were made by my granddaughter and the lamp is a replica!
@summerfield Thank you Vikki! LOL this mantle and painting are happily above any chaos that may be in the living room. Although right now it is clean because we had company last Saturday! Yes, that's Leigh in First Grade. They only gave me a little school picture this year, so I couldn't update it.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @dibzgreasley Thanks Debs! Yes, my photo of the sculpture made to look like a painting, not a photo of the original painting. @susale Thanks Suse! @alia_801 Thank you Alia! The original painting is so breezy and the poppies so bright.
@thistle Thank you Joyce and thank you so much for the fav!
@sangwann Thank you Dione! That is a high compliment since Monet is one of my favorite artists! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! I'm not so sure they're masterpieces, but the original of this one was! @francoise Thank you Francoise! The month has been quite conceptual thus far. It was time to go literal! @salza Thank you Sally! I can't really take any credit for the picture- it's really Monet's! @pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! The magic of photo processing will allow me to change it 7 times this week! @henrir Thank you Henri! @Weezilou Thank you Louise. It's probably the effects. The last one was a typical oil painting on a linen canvas. This one was an "Impressionist" effect (which seemed appropriate for Monet!) and it has a slightly different tone to it. I was thinking I'd use the same setting on all of them this week, but the pictures do not all lend themselves to the same effect which I used on the first one, so some adjustments are being made. I think you will like a few of the others which turned out similar to the first one.
I saw this and thought Monet, or impressionists at least. And then it turned out that it was a 'real' version of the scene in his painting -- so very cool! Clever for the theme too.
@taffy Thank you Taffy! Good eye for spotting the Impressionist! @radiogirl Thank you Kathy! It does, doesn't it? Well, the real one (which is hidden by the Monet) is in a similar style.
is that leigh?
