Kay and Theo are helping me post some of my favorite stories this week- and a few of theirs too. Today we decided to look at some of my beloved children's books. I remember reading most of these with my mother. The exception is the cover with the dripping paint- that was one of the books my boys loved growing up. From left to right:
The Happy Day by Ruth Krauss (a story about a special discovery at the beginning of Spring)
Oh Were They Ever Happy by Peter Spier (some inventive children find a way to amuse themselves and help mom and dad out while they are shopping)
Bears, Bears, Bears, Bears also by Ruth Krauss (I think you can figure out what this one is about)
The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper (never underestimate the power of determination)
What Do You Say Dear? by Sesyle Joslin ("a book of manners for all occasions" such as the appropriate thing to say when you drop in on someone by crashing your plane into their roof- what do you mean you've never done that? Hasn't everyone?)
And open on the chair is Racketty Packetty House by Frances Hodgson Burnett (after reading this book about a family of toys which live in and around a doll house I was convinced that my own dolls came to life when I left the room so I'd always try to sneak back in and catch them!)
Feel free to join us and post some of your favorite stories with your favorite toys!
A lovely collection of books! I can't remember if I had a book like Racketty Packetty House, or if it was a cousin, but I remember someone telling me about toys coming to life, and I was always terrified about what I'd find them doing, especially if I woke up in the middle of the night :)
So lucky to still have your childhood books. My favourite was Brian's Goodnight Book, all of Alison Uttley's, Beatrix Potter, I could go on. Love this capture, it brought back memories. Fav!
Wow they look in great shape. I kept children books for years and which I had kept them now that we've our first great-grandchild. will just have to buy some new ones for him.
My most humble thanks to all your kind comments about my books- they are precious to me and it sounds like a few of you have some similar treasures. A special thanks to those of you who fav'd it too- goodness the PP!
Books are the best - we just had the book week parade at school today. It was so fun seeing all 920 primary students and their teachers dressed up as their favourite book character
