Our camera club had a photo walk today to Indian Ladder Falls. Our main purpose was to work on capturing water with slow shutter speeds. It was an early morning as Jeff and I had to head out to the mechanic's to pick up my car before I headed off to the photo walk. I thought I'd packed everything I needed- camera and trip pod. But when I went to pull them out of the car, I realized I'd forgotten to double check to see if the foot was on the camera. It wasn't- so that meant hand-held shots of the water and probably none of the falls with that silky smooth effect on the water.
Hiking out to the falls was a bit tricky too as I was soooooo stiff from 3 days of intensive "spring cleaning". I did my best to keep up with everyone, but eventually I just let them go and promised I'd catch up later. I was a few minutes behind when I came around the bend and startled this fellow. I was expecting him to fly off but instead he seemed more interested in hanging on to his prey (which I could not see underneath the leaves) so I was able to get off quite a few shots before he'd had enough and left!
After some research and study in my bird books and consulting the "expert" on Buteos and Ocipitors in our family (that's Jeff, not me!) the results are in- he's (or she's) an immature Red-Tail Hawk.
Massive upload tonight- no need to comment on all of them- just one or two.
Awesome on black. I saw the other one first but they both are amazing captures. Lucky for you you were lagging behind to get both of these terrific shots
Thank you Henri, Bev, Nicole, Connie, Babs, Denise, MIchael, Kerri, Katy, and Mandy! Thanks for putting this one on the Trending Page!
