We're out in what stands in for a garden at Miss Ann's house today- flowers in pots on her back deck. She does have some flower beds in the front yard but every time she plants something there the deer think it's an open buffet for them!
Your backyard pots and decorations look very nice. Deer are a major problem. We used to live in a deer prone area. We were able to have a number of plants that they did not like. The ones that I can recall are iris, daffodils, lupin and salvia. They did not bother the dogwood, but ripped the strawberry (can’t remember the real name of these) trees to pieces.
It does get tricky with wildlife enjoying your hard work! Best to keep the photographers out of their way too in case they are mistaken for tasty morsels ;).
Thank you one and all! So far this has worked. I enjoy the flowers and the deer fend for themselves out in the woods where they belong!
@shutterbug49 I have heard that about Irises- the deer ate mine. I was told they do not like Forsythia- the deer ate mine. They are not supposed to like Jack in the Pulpit- the deer ate mine. The only they are not supposed to like that they did not eat were my daffodils. I had lilies and sprayed them but last the deer ate them anyway. So next year, I'm digging them all up (except the daffodils) and giving them to someone who has a fence! They don't seem to be interested in decorative grasses so that's what I'll replace all the blooming things with and continue to have some color in my pots on the deck. (o:
(Or use them for marmelade)
deer must do what a deer must do, come to the buffet of flowerbeds for meals
