Asian Pussy Willow by olivetreeann

Asian Pussy Willow

I am what you might call a "Hand-me-down" gardener. A lot of my plants come to me via other gardeners who are pruning or dividing plants in their gardens. Yesterday we visited our friends Marilyn and Greg. Marilyn is a very talented gardener and she was kind enough to give me three things I've been wanting to put in my garden for years- forsythia, lilac and pussy willow! I can't wait for the roots to be strong enough for me to transplant them.
Beautiful shot, I love the tone and pov! :O)

@lizzy_lu123 Thank you Lisa- these pussys curl unlike the other kind which remain straight. I'd never seen them before. Can't wait to have a big bush of them!
@sgoodin1 Thanks Sara!

Fantastic photo of the catkins and great processing too. I'm lucky to get plants that my Dad divides:-)

Very cool plant! Are you an avid gardener?

@louisefrance Thanks Louise! I like to say that every plant in my garden has a story this way.

@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa- I wouldn't say avid. I tend to put in plants that will take care of themselves. But I have several friends who are very gifted in gardening. So I get expert advice whenever I need it!

@karenann Thanks Karenann! Now I'm on the look out for some Mountain Laurel (my favorite) and Rhodedendron (which I spelled wrong but am too lazy to check for the correct way right now!). I thought of some of your recent shots when I was composing this!
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!

@sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry! Did you check out the shot on the 14th yet? I took that one especially for you!
March 19th, 2012
@olivetreeann I looked at it and it was the clover leaf, but did not say anything about me.
March 19th, 2012
@sarasdadandmom No, that's not it- I don't think I took a picture of a clover leaf. It's the one just before the barn door up there in the thumbnails next to a shot that looks similar. It's called "What the Squirrel Left Behind". I'm to go write a comment to you on it...

Love the hand-me down idea, I could claim that as well, it is the best way to start a garden

Beautiful

i love pussy willows although they give me grief generally with itchy watery eyes and all the things accompanying such during times of the year such as now. and i love the bronzey colour tone of this pic. great shot, ann.

@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen. This is the fourth garden I've put together this way!
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I shot it both in color and sepia and once again, I just liked the way the sepia looked better, so that's what was posted.

That's beautiful. Hand-me-down gardening is nature's way! I have a forsythia to post from yesterday - lovely spring colour, and lilacs are so beautiful, so that's three wonderful plants lucky you! :)

Beautiful shot and processing. I wish you luck with all three.

@filsie65 Thanks Phil- I'm blessed to have a lot of great gardeners in my life who'll happily give me cuttings!
@sangwann Thanks Dione! I appreciate that!

I really like how you have processed this photo Ann, very pretty.
March 21st, 2012
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole. It's very simple. I shot the picture in sepia, sharpened it slightly after uploading and added the frame- adjusting the frame colors to compliment the picture. This one was processed in good ol' Picnik. The background, although it might look processed, is actually just my rug, out of focus because I set the camera on macro to get the Pussy Willow buds. The vase was sitting on the floor. It was also shot around 4pm, giving it that soft afternoon lighting. (I think the time listed in the info is the time I uploaded it, because I know I did not take this shot that late in the day just by looking at the light patch on the floor.)

Bev
what a funny looking plant! very good shot though. great close up! i used to live near a field full of these things.

@prttblues Thanks Bev- yes, they're definitely different. I've wanted a pussy willow bush for years, but I'd always thought of the "regular" ones. But this was offered to me- free. That is the budget I'm working with!
