The Public Garden is the oldest botanical garden in the country. Between its lovely gardens, scenic lake complete with swan boats (which were introduced in 1877), beautiful statues and delightful waterfowl, there's more than enough things to point your camera at! My purpose for going there was to see the bronze statue erected to pay tribute to "Make Way for Ducklings", a 1941 children's book set in (you guessed it) the Public Gardens of Boston. The story chronicles a family of ducklings and Robert McCloskey won the Caldecott medal for his delightful portrayal of their adventures. It was not only a favorite story of mine growing up, it was also one of my boys' favorites. Of course you know I had to buy a copy in Boston for my grandchildren!
Here are some of my favorite scenes from our visit that day.
