Basic- Selective Coloring 4 by olivetreeann

Basic- Selective Coloring 4

One final lesson! Details coming up...

There are several different ways to accomplish the selective coloring look on your picture. The best way to apply is the way that it works best on your photograph. And as you can see over the past few days, there are as many different places to apply it as there are components in your picture! So here is one last application that works if there is a larger area which you want to make black and white and a smaller area you want to keep in color.

1) Upload your color picture to 365.
2) Select "Edit in Picmonkey" from the right-hand box which has your statistics and photo information.
3) 365 will automatically bring your picture over to Picmonkey. Sharpen, adjust color and exposure under the "Basic" editing effects if you wish and apply after each adjustment.
4) Select "Effects" from the left-hand column with the icons in it. Choose the black and white effect.
5) After the picture converts to black and white, use the paint brush to paint back in the original picture BUT in this case you want to paint in color what you actually want to be black and white. So in the picture above, I painted in the chairs, the flower pot, and most of the tea set.
6) After you have determined what you want to be in color and what you want in black and white, and have painted in the appropriate section, click on the REVERSE EFFECT button. Picmonkey will automatically turn what was in color to black and white, and what was black and white in to color. So in the shot above, the background was in black and white, and it became the colored section and the chairs and tea set were in color but they became black and white. Click on apply if you're satisfied with the look.
7) Add a frame if you wish, apply and then save. Picmonkey will return you to 365 where you can save the changes and post in your album. Don't be surprised if the picture doesn't show up right away. It eventually will.

Most photo processing programs have these capabilities. If you'd like to see last year's instructions using the free, on-line site Ribbet, here's the link:

I hope all of you will join our February Book Club with its flash of color. Here's the description if you'd like to read more about it.

@mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! I'm tickled by how much everyone has liked this shot. I really just took it quickly because I was more concerned about having something I could demonstrate selective coloring with rather than a good shot!
@daisymiller Thank you Daisy! Each shot has a completely different feel because of the way color was used. It's a pretty interesting science!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@eudora Thanks Diane! Mine should be arriving any day and I also ordered the one you recommended too. I'm looking forward to reading them both.

Excellent shot, Ann!! I love the instructions you gave! You may need to send them to my email address so I can flag it and reference it or message me at FB because I will completely forget. Job well done on this selective color! :)

@prttblues I will try to remember to do that. But in case I forget- you can fav the photo (like Henri did) so that she'll always have it as a reference. Do I have your email? Olivetreeann@yahoo.com if I don't- just send it over. I don't think I do. Thanks!
