In the Style of Julia Margaret Cameron (Hannah Entreats God for a Child)
I really enjoyed learning about this photographer and it was a challenge to come up with something that emulated her style. I don't know if I really achieved it, but I tried! Cameron liked to pose her family and friends in scenes from Classical literature or as people from the Bible. I knew I didn't have any Victorian costumes lying around for replicating her pictures exactly so I went for a loose interpretation of Cameron's lighting technique and did my version of Hannah praying to the Lord for a child. I struggled with redoing this as I do not like the way my eyes were washed out by the sun- but in the end it looked worse when I tried to process something back in and I'd rather eat raw squid than redo a selfie, so you get what you get!
If you want to read more about Hannah, you can find her story in the Old Testament part of the Bible: 1 Samuel Chapter 1 through 1 Samuel Chapter 2, verse 10.
Very artistic and mystical! Love your last sentence, it made me smile! This is a wonderful selfie and there´s no need to redo it in my opinion, I actually like the fact that you are looking in the light
Fabulous, Ann ... one of the best artistic selfies I've seen on 365 and fits the artist challenge perfectly. So creatively captured with that thoughtful expression in that wonderful lighting. FAV!!

I had not really intended to do a selfie for Cameron. I was going to enlist Jeff but I just happened to catch the evening sun coming in through my bathroom window on this day and knew it was the perfect lighting for imitating one of her shots. Lucky for Jeff (unlucky for me!) he was not home at the time!
i disagree with you about the eyes. to me it lent a mystery as to who this person was (for those not in the know, of course). the angle actually conveys the emotion to your audience. aces!
@summerfield Thank you Vikki! I just wish that area was a bit darker- not necessarily filled in with the details. I think it looks a little too zombie-ish. But thank you! @jesperani Thank you Jennifer! I really do not like selfies- but I had to take advantage of the lighting!
@homeschoolmom Thank you Lisa! I saw the light coming in through the window and knew it was what I needed to imitate her style. But as I took the shot I had to do some thinking as to which Biblical woman to portray! Hannah was a good choice- and one of the women of the Bible I greatly admire. So that's how it all came together.
