I'm not sure when or where this shot was taken but I really love the way my grandparents are posed here. In spite of the soft focus I decided to post this one because it really how I remember them most. I always admired my "Aunt Peggy" and it is unusual that I ended up calling her that. I'm not really sure how I came about that name, but years later when I learned that she was actually my mother's step-mother it made sense.
My mother's father, Gampy as I called him, was creative and dapper. He told stories and I loved to walk with him while he talked. But he was also a troubled soul with a drinking problem when Aunt Peggy met him. His first wife had left him for his business partner leaving him to care for my mother and her brother. It took a lot of time and love but his life did turn around. I think a lot of it had to do with Aunt Peggy but I was too young to know these things and they happened way before I was born.
So, they will forever be the elegant couple I called my grandparents and although I don't know all the stories, I do have the pictures!
Maybe there are stories we are better off not knowing or sharing but the pictures and the ones that get handed on show that there are a lot worth remembering. This is so classic. You have done more what my original intent was and yet I haven't really touched my older than me pictures this month after all. Maybe I need another month of ancestor stories
Thank you Cindy, Brian, Dixie, Rick and Nicole! I am glad I knew him at a better time in his life. In fact by the time I was born, he was sober and enjoying life. So I knew him at his best.
I had not really intended to write all these lengthy pieces but once I got started Dixie, they just kept coming! I've started to post more of me, but I really love the old family photos! However, one month is good enough for me!!
Thank you Laur!
Thank you Kerri!
Thank you Lois!
