What a beautiful bird, and a beautiful shot of him. I saw cardinals last week in my daughter's yard in east Texas; we don't have them in my neck of the woods.

@aikimomm Thanks Phoebe! I think they are considered a woodland bird. You probably have more cacti than oaks- but they have their own beauty and many birds that we don't have. So, it's a trade-off!
February 28th, 2015
Beautiful! I can't seem to get a good close shot of the ones we have. They don't want me around.

@olivetreeann Actually we are minutes away from the national forest, full of pines and grey oaks, etc. You're right, though -- we have our own share of interesting and beautiful birds. I'm not good enough to be able to ever photograph one, however!

Beautiful shot, Ann. I love how vibrant he is! I have to get a feeder for one of the trees out front so I the cardinals come back. They seem to have left after a neighbor moved out and took her feeder with her. I just don't know how much feeders cost and what kind of seed to get and how expensive that is. Awesome shot. Fav

@meemakelley Thank you Kelley! I have two things going in my favor- my tripod and my window blinds. I can set the tripod up at the back window (sliding doors) and shoot through the blinds. The birds don't see me as well that way and the camera stays steady. The tripod is really the most important. Even when I shooting with the blinds open, it allows me to pay attention to the camera and not worry about the birds seeing me move. If you don't have a tripod, I'd really recommend investing in one- they really help with a number of shots, not just the birds.
@aikimomm Oh, well then you probably get an even wider variety of birds than I do. And you could photograph them- really- see the above comment to Kelley. I can't sing the praises of my tripod enough!
@daisymiller Thank you Daisy and thank you so much for the fav!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! And thank you for the fav! You can get fairly inexpensive feeders at Walmart. Just make sure you get one that's squirrel proof otherwise you'll be filling it up every day! I buy sunflower seeds mostly. A large bag should last at least a month- but that might be heavy for you, so you could get a couple smaller ones. I've bought seed at the supermarket as well as Walmart. Lately it's been move convenient to pick it up when I'm food shopping and the price for 12 lbs is about ten dollars (I probably have the exact numbers wrong but I don't have a bag to double check with right now). Anyway when you're shopping see what's out there. I'm sure you'll be able to find something that will work for you. It certainly is very entertaining!
@anazad511 Thank you Ana and thank you for the fav!
