Another shot from The Cigar Factory where our photography classes are being held. The building was built in the 1900's and originally housed (you guessed it) a cigar factory! At some point in time, the business relocated or closed and the building was unused until the current owner decided to renovate it. The 1.8 million dollar project has involved turning two of the four floors into studio lofts for all kinds of artists, including a photographer who will be allowing our students to learn the basics of portrait photography in his studio next week. The renovation has also preserved much of the building's charm by leaving brick walls unfinished, maintaining the wood floors and as you can see in this shot, allowing pipes and heating ducts to be viewed in all their glory. The main floor is now comprised of offices, classrooms for workshops and an art gallery for shows.
I was attracted to the massiveness of this heating (?) duct in the hallway by our classroom. Couldn't resist giving it a little urban grunge in post-processing.
At least this big area must be heated well! They have to get some money out of the businesses in the building! You would have to pay for this photography session!
@francoise LOL love the questions! Urban grunge is, as far as I know, a term I completely made up! I was trying to think of a description for what I did to this photo and that's what popped into my head. Urban for the fact that it's a factory and this is some kind of industrial duct and grunge for the "dirty" texture the effect I applied put on the picture. Maybe I've started something...
Thank you Edie, Taffy, Sue, Ann, Annie, Hope, Maggie, Kerri, Sally, Debs, Nicole, Francoise, Pam, Suse and Graham. Your views and comments are much appreciated!!
