Peeling the Garlic by olivetreeann

Peeling the Garlic

It's hard to believe but the Garlic Festival is finally here! I helped to hang the show yesterday morning and then spent the rest of the afternoon putting together a CD of 20 pictures for each of the farms that invited us to come and shoot their garlic process.

Today is very busy so I took advantage of all those newly-processed garlic shots and posted it here. In this shot, two of the farmhands at the Josie Porter Farm are cutting off the garlic stalks from the top, trimming the roots off the bottom and then peeling off the outer layers of skin which still have dirt on them. It's an arduous task and they only fill about one basket in an eight hour day. But these two were enjoying a good conversation while they worked, so I guess it's not too bad of a job!
At least they can sit down while they work! I bet they have difficulty in getting the garlic smell out of their skin!

It sounds like quite a job. At least they are able to sit down! I'm sure that they will appreciate your CD of pictures.

Before I read your comment I was thinking it looked like a tedious job! Many hands make light work though and so it's good to have someone to help! Terrific shot !

Shows the work well. Not the best job.

well, that was a lot of work for you. and it's good to know that somewhere i can buy garlic produced "locally" and not the "product of china" that is rampant around here. for some reasons, i couldn't trust anything made in china somehow. well, except the props i buy from the dollar store. :-)

@mikegifford @ninaganci @dsp2
Thank you so much for the favs Mike, Nina, and D S!

@maggiemae @salza @dibzgreasley @777margo @janiskay @grammyn @thistle @taffy @pyrrhula @vesna0210 @jennywren @summerfield

And thanks also to Maggie, Sally, Debs, Margo, Janice, Katy, Joyce, Taffy, Pyrrhula, Vesna, Jen, and Vikki!

It's not as "smelly" as you would think and since they're only peeling the top two layers or so, their hands never really touch the cloves where you get most of the fragrance.
