For the Fallen Soldiers

Jeff and I stopped off at Antietam on the way home from our visit in Kentucky. The Civil War Battlefield is the site of the "bloodiest one-day battle" in the Civil War with thousands of men being injured or mortally wounded during the battle (which neither side definitively won). This statue sits atop the "Maryland Monument" which is a tribute to the soldiers of the "Maryland Division" that marched into the fray but never marched out. Antietam also has a tie to photography. It was the first battle to be photographed after the fact. To tell you the pictures taken to document the bloody result were tragic would be putting it mildly.
This shot does tell a story and that battle sounds terrible
