My peanut friend, Buster, showed up limping one day. It was obvious he'd either been hit by a car or taken a fall out of a tree (very unlikely!). It also became apparent that he was not getting better. He struggled to get to the back door and ate less and less each day. I knew the time was coming when he wouldn't be back and I must admit I was very sad!
But...about a week and a half ago, I looked out the back door at a little squirrel by the feeder and caught his eye. I asked him if he wanted a peanut, not really expecting any reaction on his part, but was surprised to see him come up on the deck! He came right to the back door just like Buster used to. "Well, that was a fluke" I thought to myself, only to be surprised to see him appear the next day expecting more peanuts. He's not coming as consistently as the first Buster did, and he's not eating as much (which could be a good thing!), but he's definitely following in Buster's footsteps.
I love this Buster Jr. story! He's adorable and I think it's amazing that he comes right to the back door for peanuts. Fantastic shot of this cute critter!
Oh what a great story. Good to know Buster Jr is following the family tradition.
We have possums in our garden and the male possum is really tame, but his Mrs and baby are a bit more reserved. It is so sweet to be at one with nature.
Ann, I can't believe you said that about your squirrel falling out of a tree. Last year, I actually saw this happen. The squirrel fell, lay on the ground not moving for a few minutes, then started moving slowing. In not too long, it got up and scampered off.
