Looks like Pip and Petunia have used a deck of cards to illustrate today's Christmas carol. Resourceful little Critters, aren't they?
"We Three Kings", also known as "We Three Kings of Orient Are" or "The Quest of the Magi", is a Christmas carol that was written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857. He wrote the hymn while serving as the rector for an Episcopal church in Williamsport PA for a college Christmas pageant in NYC. It is usually the custom for the lyricist and composer to be two different people when it comes to hymns so it's unique that Hopkins wrote both. He originally wrote the song to feature three male soloists (one being himself!) with the first and last verses being sung by everyone. Nowadays the solos are omitted and congregations sing the entire song together. The refrain proceeds to praise the beauty of the Star of Bethlehem. It is based on the account of the Magi's visit in the Gospel of Matthew and several Old Testament prophecies from the Book of Isaiah and the Book of Psalms. While the Bible never says how many Magi actually came to see Jesus, the number 3 has often been associated with them because of the three separate gifts they brought to Him.
Thank you Taffy, Felicity, Kathy, Katy, Lou Ann, Henri, Babs and Rob! Pip and Petunia were quite excited to see themselves on the PP today.
@grammyn Because I'm not using the name of the song in the title?
Thank you Ferry and Kathy!
@grammyn I'll check out the challenge then and see what works.
