I meet with a small group of photographers once a month to discuss current pictures and the more creative aspects of photography. We are all quite different in genre and vision but the discussions are usually lively and thought provoking. This past month two of our members felt they had hit somewhat of a slump so we talked about ways to overcome them. One suggestion I made was to push yourself out of "the comfort zone" by giving yourself the challenge of combining things in a photograph that wouldn't normally be thought of as going together. They wanted an example! So I pulled out three elements that we had commented on during our discussion that day- capturing motion, using negative space and adding a "painterly effect" to a photo to make it look like a piece of art more than a photo. Challenge accepted we all headed out to figure out a creative way to put all those pieces together. There were no restrictions on how to accomplish this- it could be in or with the camera or in post processing. This is one of my first attempts to capture that combo using only the camera and some minor effects (I altered the color just a little bit, but the blur- i. e. painterly effect- is all camera).
Thank you Joy, Wendy, Kathy and Kathy!
