Not at all, Susan. We use it all the time, you might have noticed from my posts. Quite friendly to us. We often shorten to Oz for the country.
And this is a great sign to see in the midst of all that snow. Hope the uggs are keeping lots of you very cosy in this cold weather.
I agree with Robin, we use it all the time, hence the chant that seems to go up at any sort of international sports event, Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi. Although whenever I hear an American say it out loud, it sounds wrong. You tend to use a soft 's' sound, so it sort of sounds like 'hossie'. We say it with a 'z' sound, think Ozzy Osborne.
